Why is the fondue set smoking during use?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 4:23 PM

If you see smoke from a fondue set, switch it off straight away and unplug it. Smoke can mean residue, overheating or spilled food on a hot surface, and it should not be ignored. If smoke returns after cleaning and careful reassembly, stop using the appliance and contact the retailer where it was purchased.

1. Turn the appliance off immediately

  1. Switch off the fondue at once.
  2. Unplug it from the mains.
  3. Leave it in place until it has cooled fully.

Do not lift the unit while it is still hot or smoking.

2. Check for spills or residue

  1. Once cool, look for oil, cheese or chocolate around the base and housing.
  2. Clean away residue with a soft cloth only.
  3. Dry all parts thoroughly before any further use.

Residue on hot surfaces is a common cause of smoke.

3. Review the fill level and thermostat setting

  1. Make sure the contents do not exceed the maximum content indicator.
  2. Lower the thermostat if the temperature seems too high.
  3. Do not leave the appliance unattended while testing.

Too much heat or overfilling can cause splashing and smoke.

4. Stop use if the problem repeats

  1. Do not use the fondue again if smoke appears a second time.
  2. Do not open the housing or try to repair the heater.
  3. Arrange follow-up through the retailer.

If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
