Why does my fondue set wobble or feel unstable on the worktop?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 4:36 AM

A fondue set should sit securely before you switch it on. If it wobbles, the feet may not be resting evenly, the surface may be uneven, or the worktop may be slippery. Because the appliance becomes hot during use, instability can quickly become a safety issue. Stop using it if it cannot sit safely.

What to check

  1. Move the fondue to a flat, firm and dry surface.
  2. Check that all non-slip feet are present and touching the worktop.
  3. Make sure the cord is not pulling the unit to one side.
  4. Confirm that the ring, pot and forks are not placed in a way that makes the unit lean.

If the wobble disappears after moving the appliance, the worktop was likely the cause. If it remains unstable on a level surface, the base or feet may be damaged.

What the result means

  • Better stability on another surface means the original location was unsuitable.
  • Improvement after moving the cord means tension on the cable was affecting balance.
  • Persistent wobble on a flat surface means the product may have a physical fault.

When to stop using the fondue set

Stop using the appliance immediately if it tilts, rocks, slides or feels unsafe while hot. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
