Why does my fondue cord feel loose or disconnect during use?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 4:23 PM

If the cord feels loose, stop using the fondue until you have checked the connection carefully. These sets use mains power, so an unstable cord or socket connection can quickly become unsafe. If the cord will not stay connected securely, or if there is any sign of damage, stop using the appliance and contact the retailer where it was purchased.

1. Unplug and inspect the connection point

  1. Switch the appliance off and unplug it.
  2. Check whether the detachable cord, where fitted, clicks or seats properly.
  3. Look for dirt, bending or visible wear around the connector.

A connection that moves too easily can interrupt heating.

2. Try a different wall socket

  1. Plug the appliance into another known working socket.
  2. Check whether the cord stays secure there.
  3. Do not use extension leads if they make the connection unstable.

If the cord only works in one socket, the issue may be with the socket rather than the fondue.

3. Check the cord and plug for damage

  1. Look for cuts, fraying, heat marks or bent pins.
  2. If any damage is visible, stop using the product immediately.
  3. Do not tape, force or repair the cord yourself.

Visible damage means the appliance should not be used again.

4. Stop use if the connection is unreliable

  1. Do not keep wiggling the cord while the appliance is on.
  2. Do not use the fondue if power cuts in and out.
  3. Let the retailer advise on the next steps.

If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
