Why is my fondue not heating up when I switch it on?

If your fondue does not warm up, first check the power supply, the plug connection and whether the thermostat is set above the lowest setting. These fondue sets use mains power, so stop using the appliance immediately if the cord, plug, control unit or socket appears damaged, smells hot or feels unusually warm.

  1. Make sure the appliance is on a stable, dry, heat-resistant surface and that the detachable cord or thermostat connection is fully seated, if your model uses one. Expected result: the power light should come on and the pan should begin to warm gradually.
  2. Turn the thermostat up slowly from the lowest setting to a medium setting. Expected result: you should hear or feel the appliance begin to heat within a short time. If the light stays on but there is no heat, continue to the next step.
  3. Check that the pan contains at least the minimum amount of liquid or ingredients and does not exceed the maximum content indicator. Expected result: the pan should heat more evenly when filled within the marked range.
  4. Unplug the appliance, let it cool and inspect the cord, plug and connector for movement, damage or looseness. Expected result: everything should feel firm and undamaged. If anything is loose, frayed or intermittently disconnects, stop using the product.
  5. Try a different wall socket that you know works with another appliance. Expected result: if the fondue heats in the other socket, the original socket may be the issue.

Stop using the fondue if it trips the power, gives off burning smells, or heats only when the cord is held in a certain position. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
