Why is my parasol fabric difficult to keep clean?

Outdoor parasol fabric can pick up dust, pollen and light marks quite quickly, especially if it is stored in a damp or exposed place. Clean it gently and avoid harsh scrubbing, because aggressive cleaning can wear the fabric or coating.

Clean it in a safe order

1. Brush off loose dust with a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush. Expected result: surface dirt comes away before you use any water.
2. Wipe the fabric with a cloth dampened in clean water. If needed, use only a mild cleaner suitable for outdoor fabric and test a small hidden area first. Expected result: the mark lightens without damaging the material.
3. Let the parasol dry fully before folding or covering it. Expected result: the fabric feels dry and does not smell musty.
4. Check whether the mark is actually mould, a stain or worn fabric. If it does not improve after gentle cleaning, the material may be damaged rather than dirty. Expected result: you can judge whether the issue is cosmetic or structural.

Stop if the fabric is damaged

Stop using the parasol if cleaning reveals tears, thinning fabric or loose stitching near a load-bearing point. If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where you bought it.
