Why does my parasol need more force to turn the crank than before?

If the crank has become stiff, the parasol may be catching on the fabric, the mechanism may be under strain, or dirt and moisture may be affecting the moving parts. Stop using it if the crank becomes harder suddenly, grinds, or feels as if it could slip.

1. Make sure the parasol is standing straight on a stable base. If it is leaning, the mechanism can bind as you turn the crank.
2. Check that the canopy is free to move and that no fabric is trapped around the centre pole or ribs. Even a small snag can make the crank feel heavy.
3. Turn the crank slowly and evenly through a short movement, then stop. If the resistance is consistent rather than smooth, the mechanism may need professional review through the retailer’s available next steps.
4. Inspect the visible parts of the crank and pole for dirt or damage. Clean only the outside surfaces you can reach safely and never force the handle.
