If the base weights seem uneven, the parasol can become unstable even when the fabric looks fine. Stop using it if the weights shift, lift or do not sit flat, because an unbalanced base can let the parasol tip or move unexpectedly.
Check the weight placement
- Look at each weight tile and confirm it sits flat.
- Make sure the set is arranged as intended and not overlapping or tilted.
- Check that the parasol pole is centred above the base.
If the parasol steadies after you realign the weights, the problem was likely the arrangement rather than the pole.
Check the surface underneath
- Move the set onto a level, solid surface.
- Check whether paving slabs, decking or balcony flooring is rocking.
- Do not try to correct a wobbly base by placing random objects underneath it.
Even a suitable base can feel unstable if the ground is uneven.
Stop using it if it stays unbalanced
If the weights still move or the parasol remains unstable, stop using it until the setup is corrected. For larger parasols and cantilever models, secure weighting is especially important. If safe use is still uncertain, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
As routine care, check the base weights at the start of the season and after moving the parasol to a different part of the garden or balcony.
