Why does my air styler keep switching off when I change the setting?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 8:02 AM

If the air styler stops or flickers off while you adjust the controls, the cause may be a loose connection, an overheated unit or a control that needs a firmer selection. Stop using the appliance if the switch feels damaged, the cord is frayed or the unit shows signs of overheating.

1. Make sure the control is set positively

  1. Move the selector fully to the chosen setting.
  2. Listen and feel for a clear change in operation.

If the appliance only runs when the control is held in a certain position, stop using it.

2. Check the plug and cord

  1. Unplug the appliance and inspect the cord where it meets the handle and plug.
  2. Look for twisting, wear or a loose fit in the socket.

A poor connection can interrupt power briefly when the appliance is moved. If any damage is visible, do not continue.

3. Let the appliance cool and try again

  1. Switch it off and leave it unplugged for a full cooling period.
  2. Restart it only when it is cool to the touch.

Some appliances cut out when they get too hot. If the problem disappears after cooling, ventilation may need improving.

4. Stop use if the fault repeats

  1. Test the appliance only once more after the checks above.
  2. If it still cuts out, switch it off and do not use it again.

Unstable operation is not safe to ignore. Contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
