Why does my air styler keep switching off during use?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 8:17 AM

If your air styler starts normally but then stops during styling, the most likely causes are overheating, a blocked air inlet or a poor electrical connection. Let the appliance cool fully before you try it again. If it switches off repeatedly, stop using it until you have checked it carefully.

Look for restricted airflow

  1. Switch off and unplug the appliance.
  2. Check the air inlet, air outlet and attachment openings for hair, dust or styling product build-up.
  3. Remove any visible blockage and make sure no towel, hair or clothing is covering the vents during use.

Expected result: the appliance should run more steadily once the airflow is clear. If it still stops, continue.

Check the heat and speed setting

  1. Restart the appliance on a lower heat or speed setting.
  2. Use a smaller section of hair and avoid holding the styler in one place for too long.
  3. Allow the appliance to rest if it feels unusually hot.

Expected result: the appliance should stay on longer if it was shutting down from heat build-up. If it only runs briefly on every setting, there may be a fault.

Check the cord and socket

  1. Try a different wall socket.
  2. Inspect the cord for damage, twisting or a loose connection near the plug and appliance entry point.

Expected result: power should remain stable if the supply was the cause. If the cord or plug becomes warm, or the appliance stops again after a short time, stop using it.

If the problem remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where you bought the product.
