Why does my fondue leave residue or marks on the table?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 9:07 PM

Small marks around a fondue set usually come from condensation, splashes or residue on the base or ring. If liquid has reached the cord, plug or socket area, stop using the appliance immediately and unplug it.

Check the source of the marks

  1. Look at the pot rim, ring and any sauce cups for drips.
  2. Check whether the pot was filled above the maximum mark.
  3. See whether the appliance was placed on an uneven or absorbent surface.

What you should expect

A level appliance on a stable surface should keep most splashes contained. The non-slip feet, where fitted, should help the set remain steady.

Reduce spills during use

  1. Do not overfill the pot.
  2. Stir carefully and lower food into the pot slowly.
  3. Wipe the exterior after cooling, using only the cleaning method allowed for your model.

What this means

Frequent residue suggests the pot is being filled too high, the temperature is too strong or the set is not sitting level.

When to stop using it

Stop using the fondue if the appliance leaks liquid, the base becomes wet near electrical parts or the table marks come from visible cracking. Unplug it, let it cool and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
