Why does my parasol seem harder to turn after rain or damp weather?

If the parasol feels stiffer after rain or damp weather, moisture may be affecting the fabric, joints or crank path. Do not force the mechanism while it is wet, because extra resistance can make the problem worse. Dry the unit first, then check whether the stiffness remains.

Dry the parasol safely

1. Close the parasol and wipe away visible moisture with a soft dry cloth.
2. Leave it open only as long as needed to dry, and only in calm weather and a safe location.
3. Make sure the protection bag is not trapping moisture inside during storage.

Expected result: the crank should turn more smoothly once surface moisture has gone. If it is still stiff when dry, continue checking.

Check for damp-related strain

1. Inspect the fabric for water pooling or heavy folds that may be pulling on one side.
2. Look at the base and pole to see whether the parasol is standing level after wet weather.
3. Open and close the parasol slowly to confirm whether one part of the movement is sticking.

Expected result: if damp was the cause, the movement should improve after drying and repositioning. If not, there may be debris or a mechanical fault.

Stop using the parasol if the crank jams, the frame bends, or water exposure is followed by cracking, slipping or a sudden loss of stability. Contact the retailer or store where it was purchased if the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain.
