An air styler will become warm in use, but it should not become uncomfortably hot or cause the airflow to weaken sharply. Excess heat often means the vents are blocked, the setting is too high for the section of hair or the appliance is being held too close to the scalp. If it feels unsafe, stop using it.
Check airflow around the appliance
- Switch off and unplug the appliance.
- Clear the air inlet and outlet of hair, dust and product residue.
- Make sure the appliance is not resting on fabric, bedding or another soft surface while it is running.
Expected result: the casing should feel less hot once airflow is restored. If it still heats rapidly, continue.
Use a lower setting and shorter styling passes
- Restart on the lowest practical heat and speed setting.
- Style smaller sections and move the appliance through the hair rather than holding it in one spot.
- Let the appliance cool between sections if the housing becomes too warm.
Expected result: the appliance should remain more comfortable to handle when the load is reduced. A persistent overheating problem is not normal.
When to stop using it
Stop using the air styler if the cord, plug or casing becomes very hot, the smell is burning, or the appliance shuts down repeatedly from heat. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where you bought the product.
