Why does my nose and ear trimmer make a weak cut?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 8:17 AM

If a nose and ear trimmer is only taking a few hairs at a time, the tip may be clogged, the battery may be low, or the cutting head may not be reaching the hair cleanly. Stop using it if the blade frame is damaged or if the appliance causes discomfort.

Check the battery and blade area

  1. Fit a fresh AA battery if the appliance is slow or weak.
  2. Switch the trimmer off and remove any visible hair from the cutting head using the cleaning brush supplied.
  3. Make sure the outer blade is not bent, deformed or blocked.
  4. Test again with gentle, brief movements only.

If the cut improves, the issue was likely a low battery or trapped hair. The supplied instructions say the trimmer is intended only for nose and ear hair, and not for forceful use.

Use the trimmer safely

  1. Insert only the narrow tip of the outer blade into the nostril or ear opening.
  2. Do not push the appliance in forcefully.
  3. Use it only for its intended trimming purpose.

A weak cut that remains after a fresh battery and cleaning may mean the blade assembly is worn. Do not continue to use a damaged or bent head.

Stop using it if

  • The outer blade frame is deformed or loose.
  • The appliance pulls, catches or causes pain.
  • You cannot clear the cutting head safely.

If the problem remains unresolved, or safe use is uncertain, stop using the trimmer and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased for the available next steps.
