Why does my shaver only run for a very short time?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 8:02 AM

If your shaver stops much sooner than expected, the battery may not be fully charged, the cutting parts may be clogged, or the battery may be wearing out. Start with simple checks before you assume there is a fault. If the unit becomes hot, leaks, or behaves unpredictably, stop using it straight away.

Step-by-step checks

  1. Charge the shaver for the full recommended time, then test it again. Expected result: it should run for noticeably longer after a complete charge.
  2. Clean the blade area and remove trapped hair from the cutters and comb attachment, if fitted. Expected result: the motor should sound steadier and the shave should feel smoother.
  3. Check that the cutting length setting is not too high for the hair you are trimming. Very heavy cutting can shorten running time. Expected result: the shaver should work more evenly once the load is reduced.
  4. Use the appliance only on clean, dry hair or beard hair unless the supplied instructions specifically say otherwise. Expected result: the shaver should no longer slow down or stall as quickly.

When to stop using it

Stop using the shaver if the battery area, charging lead or housing gets unusually hot, if you notice swelling, a burning smell, or if the appliance cuts out even after a full charge and careful cleaning. Do not attempt to open or replace internal battery parts.

If the problem continues, or you are unsure whether it is safe to keep using the appliance, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
