Why should I stop using my cake maker if the cord feels warm?

A mains-powered appliance should never have a cord that feels hot, soft or visibly damaged. Because the cake maker family includes electrical heating products, a warm cord can be a warning sign that needs caution, not something to ignore.

1. Switch off and unplug straight away

1. Turn the appliance off.
2. Unplug it from the socket without touching any hot surfaces.

If the cord cools quickly once unplugged, the heat may have come from strain or poor contact, but it still needs checking.

2. Inspect the full length of the cord and plug

1. Look for cuts, pinching, exposed wires or discolouration.
2. Check whether the plug or socket area feels hotter than the rest.

If you see damage or melting, do not use the appliance again.

3. Check how the cord is being routed

1. Make sure the cable is not trapped under the appliance or pulled tight across the worktop.
2. Keep it clear of hot surfaces.

If the cord had been under strain, easing the route may reduce stress, but the appliance should still not be used until it is safe.

4. Stop using it if the fault returns

1. Do not tape over a damaged cord or try to repair it yourself.
2. Stop using the appliance if the cord warms up again, if the plug feels hot or if there is any smell of burning.
