Why is smoke or an unusual smell coming from my cake maker?

A slight smell can happen during first use, but smoke, a strong burning smell or repeated fumes mean you should stop the appliance and check it carefully.

1. Turn the appliance off and unplug it immediately.
2. Let it cool fully before touching the plates or housing.
3. Check for crumbs, batter overflow or cleaning residue on the cooking surface.
4. Clean only after the appliance is cool, using a soft cloth and avoiding excess water.
