Why does my cake pop maker overfill or spill batter around the edges?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 3:23 PM

Spill-over usually means the cavities have been filled too much, the batter is too loose, or the appliance was opened before the cake pops had set enough to hold their shape. The safest approach is to reduce the fill level and let the maker preheat fully before baking.

  1. Use less batter in each cavity on the next batch. Expected result: the mixture should stay inside the moulds instead of running over the rim. If it still spills, the batter may be too thin.
  2. Wait for the ready light before filling. Expected result: a properly heated plate helps the batter set sooner. If you add mixture too early, overflow is more likely.
  3. Check whether the appliance sits level on the worktop. Expected result: even heat and even filling should reduce spills to one side. If the unit rocks, move it to a flatter surface.
  4. After the appliance has cooled, remove any baked-on spill with a soft damp cloth. Expected result: the next batch should sit better on a clean surface. Do not scratch the coating.
  5. If batter continues to leak from the sides even when you use less of it, stop using the appliance if the moulds or lid area look damaged. Contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.

Thicker batter and careful filling usually give cleaner shapes and make the cake pops easier to remove once baked.
