If batter is overflowing, the most likely cause is simply too much mixture in the mould or a batter that expands more than expected. The product instructions describe adding prepared waffle dough to the lower baking tray and using the appliance on a stable, level surface, which helps prevent spill-over during cooking.
- Reduce the amount of batter for the next waffle. Expected result: the lid should close without forcing mixture out of the sides.
- Check that the waffle maker is level on the worktop and the feet are steady. Expected result: batter should spread evenly rather than running to one side.
- Use a recipe suitable for waffle makers rather than a very runny pancake batter. Expected result: the mixture should thicken as it cooks instead of bubbling excessively.
- Keep the lid closed while cooking and do not press it down hard. Expected result: the batter should rise within the mould without escaping around the edges.
Stop using the waffle maker if overflow reaches the cord, plug or controls, or if any liquid has entered openings near the base. Unplug it straight away and do not switch it back on until it is fully dry and checked for safety. Do not try to open the housing or dry internal parts yourself. If the batter continues to spill even after reducing the amount, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased. Clean any residue only after the appliance has cooled.
