Why does my torch switch off as soon as I release the button?

If your torch only works while you hold the button down, the switch may be a momentary type, or the button may not be latching properly. Start with simple checks before assuming a fault, and stop using the torch if the switch feels stuck, the unit gets hot or there is battery damage.

1. Press the switch once and observe whether the torch is designed to stay on or only light while pressed. Expected result: if the light stays on, the torch is functioning normally; if it goes off immediately, continue.
2. Check whether the button is obstructed by dirt, a misaligned part or a tight case seam. Expected result: a clean, free button should move smoothly.
3. Remove and refit the batteries, then test again. Expected result: a weak battery connection can sometimes affect switch behaviour.
4. Try the torch in a quiet, low-risk place where you can test it briefly without relying on it. Expected result: the light should remain on if the switch is working correctly.

Stop using the torch immediately if the button sticks, the casing warms up or the battery compartment shows leakage or swelling. Do not force the switch or open the housing. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
