Many plug-in night lights are designed to switch on only when the room is dark enough, so they may appear to be working normally even when they look off during the day. If the unit remains off in darkness as well, or if you notice heat, smell or damage, stop using it straight away.
- Check whether the room is bright, including nearby lamps, sunlight or reflective surfaces. If it is, the sensor may be preventing the light from coming on.
- Move the night light to a darker room or cover the sensor area briefly if your model has a day and night sensor. If it lights up, the sensor is responding as intended.
- Unplug the unit and test it in a different socket in a darker location. If it works there, the original placement was too bright or unsuitable.
- Wipe away dust from the sensor area with a dry, soft cloth. If the sensor is dirty, the unit may misread the light level.
- If the lamp never comes on in darkness, or it flickers, overheats or smells unusual, stop using it and do not attempt repairs.
If the problem continues or you are unsure whether the sensor is operating safely, stop using the product and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
