Why does my torch switch on by itself or seem stuck on?

If a torch seems to switch on by itself or will not turn off properly, stop using it and check the switch and batteries before carrying it in a pocket or bag. A stuck switch can waste batteries and may indicate dirt, wear or internal damage. If the torch is hot, smells burnt or the switch feels jammed, do not continue to use it.

1. Press the switch several times to see whether it moves freely. Expected result: the button should return cleanly each time.
2. Remove the batteries and refit them, then test again. Expected result: a poor battery fit should no longer keep the torch active.
3. Check whether anything is pressing on the switch, such as a bag lining or case. Expected result: the torch should stay off when not in use.
4. Inspect the switch area for dirt, damage or moisture. Expected result: the housing should be dry and intact.
5. If the torch still switches itself on or remains on, stop using it. Expected result: you avoid heat build-up and battery drain.

If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, stop using the torch and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
