Why does my babyroom night light not respond to the day and night sensor?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 4:20 PM

If the babyroom night light seems to stay on in bright daylight or remain off in a dark room, the sensor may be obstructed, mispositioned or affected by the local environment. Do not keep testing it in a way that leaves the room dark if the light is needed for safe movement.

Check the sensor area first

  1. Unplug the unit and look for dust, stickers, packaging film or other covering material near the sensor.
  2. Remove anything that could block ambient light from reaching the sensor.
  3. Plug the night light into a socket with a clear view of the room, then cover and uncover the sensor area gently with your hand.

If the light responds when covered but not in the room as a whole, the problem is likely the placement rather than the night light itself.

Test the room conditions

  1. Move the night light away from lamps, windows, reflective surfaces or very bright objects.
  2. Wait for a change in natural light, then observe whether the lamp switches at a more suitable point.
  3. Try a different socket in the same room to rule out local shadows or reflections.

The supplied product data shows the Smartwares IDE-60092 is a Babyroom Nightlight with a day and night sensor and 3000 K colour temperature. The IDE-60090 is also a sensor night light, while the IDE-60091 is a non-sensor rainbow twin-pack.

What to do if it still does not behave as expected

  • Stop using the product if the casing is cracked, the plug is loose or the light flickers sharply.
  • Stop using it if the sensor appears damaged or the unit becomes hot.
  • If the issue remains unresolved, or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.

For prevention, keep the sensor area clean and avoid placing the light where curtains, cot sides or ornaments block natural light changes.
