If a solar groundspot lights briefly and then goes out, it usually means the battery has too little charge, the sensor is being triggered by stray light, or the unit is not getting enough sun during the day. The Smartwares groundspots are intended for outdoor use and include a day and night sensor plus an on/off switch.
- Leave the groundspot in direct daylight for a full day and test it again after dark. If the light stays on longer, the battery was simply undercharged.
- Check whether nearby garden lighting, reflective surfaces or moving shadows are affecting the sensor. If the light becomes steady after moving it, the environment was confusing the sensor.
- Clean the lens and panel with a dry cloth. If the light performs better after cleaning, dirt had reduced charging or affected the sensor.
- If your model has an on/off switch, confirm it is on and not partly moved. Then retest in darkness. If the result is stable, the switch position was part of the problem.
- Stop using the product if the light pulses with visible water inside, corrosion or a damaged battery compartment. Do not open the unit.
If the groundspot still goes out almost immediately and safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
