Why is grease collecting in the wrong place on my electric barbecue?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 12:42 PM

If grease is not flowing where it should, the barbecue may be sitting unevenly, a tray may not be fitted correctly, or residue may be blocking the normal drip path. Stop using the barbecue if grease is reaching the cord, plug, controls or any electrical parts.

  1. Check that the barbecue is level. Place it on a stable, even surface. If it wobbles or leans, grease may run the wrong way and create smoke or a mess.
  2. Refit the grease collector. Remove it when the barbecue is fully cool, clean it and reinstall it exactly as shown in the supplied instructions. A tray that is not seated properly can cause overflow or leakage.
  3. Look for obstructions. Hardened grease or food scraps can block the flow path. Clean the channel or surrounding area only when cold and unplugged.
  4. Use moderate amounts of fatty food. Very fatty food can fill the collector faster than expected. If this keeps happening, cook smaller batches and empty the collector more often.

If grease still pools in the wrong area after these checks, or if any electrical part has been contaminated, stop using the barbecue and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased. Do not tilt the appliance while it is hot.
