Why does my shaver feel blunt after storage?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 11:27 AM

If a shaver feels blunt after being stored away, the blades may be clogged, dry or not sitting correctly. Storage can also leave dust and lint around the cutting head. Stop using the product if the blade set is damaged, the head is loose, or it starts to tug the skin badly.

Refresh the cutting head safely

  1. Switch the appliance off and disconnect it from power.
  2. Remove loose hair, dust and lint with the supplied cleaning brush.
  3. Check whether the blades need the recommended oil, then apply only the amount stated in the supplied instructions.
  4. Refit the head or comb attachment carefully so it sits squarely and does not wobble.
  5. Test on a small area with a light touch and slow passes.

If the cutting action improves after cleaning and oiling, the issue was probably storage buildup or dryness. If it still feels blunt, the blades may be worn or the mechanism may not be aligned.

When to stop

  • The shaver pulls hair instead of cutting it.
  • The head squeaks, rattles or overheats.
  • The blade area looks bent, chipped or uneven.

Do not file, sharpen or open the cutter assembly yourself. If the issue remains or safe use is uncertain, stop using the product and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased for the available next steps.
