Why does my air styler leave my hair damp at the roots?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 8:47 AM

If the roots stay damp, the airflow may not be reaching the hair properly, or the section may be too dense for the attachment you are using. Stop using the appliance if it overheats, stalls or seems to blow unevenly.

Try these steps

  1. Use smaller sections, especially near the roots where hair is often denser.
  2. Hold the appliance close enough for airflow to reach the roots, but do not keep it in one place for too long.
  3. Check whether a brush, nozzle or curler is partly blocked by hair or product.
  4. Reduce the amount of styling product used at the roots, because heavy product can slow drying.
  5. Finish with a cooler setting, if available, once the roots are mostly dry.

What the result means

If the roots dry more evenly after smaller sections and lighter product use, the issue is usually styling technique. If the roots remain damp even when the appliance seems to blow normally, there may be an airflow problem or the attachment may not suit the section.

When to stop using it

Stop using the air styler if it starts producing very hot air, if the casing becomes uncomfortable to hold, or if you notice a burning smell.

If it still happens

If the issue remains unresolved, or you are unsure whether the appliance is safe to use, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
