Why does my air styler leave the ends smoother than the roots?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 8:47 AM

If the ends look smoother than the roots, the appliance is usually reaching the hair lengths more easily than the root area. That often happens when the section is too thick, the brush is held too far from the scalp, or the roots are dried less thoroughly than the rest of the hair.

Try this sequence

  1. Work with a narrower section and start closer to the roots.
  2. Lift the section slightly so the airflow can pass through the root area.
  3. Hold the brush or curler in place only as long as needed, then move on to the next section.
  4. Compare the result after using the same method on a different section.

If the roots respond better when you use smaller sections and better lift, the air styler is probably functioning correctly. If the same lack of root smoothness keeps happening across all sections, the attachment or airflow may need checking.

When to stop using it

Stop using the appliance if it becomes unstable near the scalp, overheats, or starts to tug the hair.

Next steps

If the problem remains unresolved after adjusting your styling method, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased. They can explain the available next steps.
