Why is the handle or filter basket difficult to close?

If the handle or basket will not close easily, something is usually misaligned, overloaded or not seated fully. Do not force the part shut, because that can damage the latch or trap hot water inside the machine.

1. Recheck the basket position

1. Open the basket area fully.
2. Remove and refit the basket so it sits squarely in place.

Expected result: the basket should slide in without resistance and close normally. A basket that is not seated properly is a common cause.

2. Look for overfilled grounds or the wrong adapter

1. Reduce the amount of coffee if the basket appears packed.
2. Check that you are using only the accessories intended for the machine.

Expected result: the handle should close without needing force. Too much coffee or the wrong insert can stop it closing.

3. Check for residue or damage

1. Clean coffee residue from the rim and closing area once the appliance has cooled.
2. Inspect for obvious damage to the basket, latch or surrounding plastic.

Expected result: the handle should move freely after cleaning. If parts are bent or cracked, stop using the appliance.

Stop using the product immediately if the handle feels jammed under pressure, if hot steam escapes from the closure area, or if the machine leaks when you try to close it. If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where the coffee maker was purchased.
