Why does my grill pan not get hot enough to cook properly?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 2:37 PM

If the grill pan stays lukewarm, the thermostat may be set too low, the unit may not be fully preheated or the power connection may be poor. Stop using the appliance if the cord or thermostat connection feels damaged, discoloured or unusually hot.

  1. Check that the thermostat is set higher than the minimum setting and allow the appliance to preheat fully. Expected result: the cooking surface should become clearly hot before food is added.
  2. Confirm that the detachable cord or thermostat is fitted correctly, if your model has one. Expected result: the unit powers and heats without cutting out.
  3. Test the wall socket with another appliance. Expected result: a working socket rules out a basic power issue.
  4. Reduce the amount of food in the pan, because overcrowding can make the surface seem weaker than it is. Expected result: smaller batches cook more evenly.
  5. If the grill pan still does not heat properly after these checks, stop using it and do not attempt internal repairs.

For best performance, preheat before every use and avoid placing cold, wet food directly onto the surface. If the issue remains unresolved, or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
