Why does my kettle base feel warm even when the kettle is off?

A slightly warm base shortly after use can be normal, but continued heat when the kettle is off suggests residual warmth, a poor electrical contact or another fault. Because these kettles use mains power, keep water away from the base and only check the unit when everything is unplugged and dry.

What to check

1. Unplug the kettle and let both kettle and base cool completely.
2. Check whether the warmth is only from recent use. If it disappears after cooling, this is usually normal.
3. Inspect the base, plug and cord for scorch marks, deformation or unusual odour.
4. Ensure the kettle is not storing moisture around the connector area and that the base is dry.
5. Reconnect and test once only. If the base heats up again while the kettle is off, stop using it.

Do not keep the kettle connected in the hope that the warmth will settle. Ongoing heat can indicate a fault that should be treated cautiously.

When to stop using it

Stop using the kettle if the base stays warm for long periods after use, becomes hot without boiling, or if you notice smell, discolouration or visible damage.

If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
