How do I clean limescale from my kettle safely?

Limescale is a common cause of slow boiling, noise and poor taste, so regular descaling can help the kettle perform more consistently. Always unplug the kettle first, let it cool completely and stop using it if you see damage, leaks or any electrical fault.

Safe cleaning routine

1. Empty the kettle and rinse out loose deposits.
2. Use a descaling method suitable for household kettles and follow the product’s care guidance if you have it.
3. Leave the kettle to stand only for the time needed to loosen the scale, then rinse thoroughly several times.
4. Boil a fresh kettle of water once after descaling and pour it away before normal use.

What to check afterwards
