If the barbecue warms up but never feels hot enough, the cause is often a setting issue, a preheating problem or heat being lost through the lid and surroundings. Start with safe checks only, and stop using the appliance if you notice damaged wiring, unstable parts or any sign that the heating element is not seated correctly.
1. Allow full preheating
- Set the thermostat to the desired level and give the barbecue time to reach temperature before cooking.
- On models with a ready or power light, observe whether the light changes as the appliance heats and regulates temperature.
- Expected result: the barbecue becomes noticeably hotter after preheating. If it remains only lukewarm, continue to the next step.
2. Check the cooking setup
- Use the appliance in the mode intended for the current setup, for example as a table model or on its stand.
- If the barbecue has a lid, note that one manual states that when used electrically with the lid on, it can switch off at maximum temperature, and removing the lid allows the plate to rise higher.
- Expected result: heat output improves once the setup matches the cooking method. If it does not, stop and inspect for safe use.
3. Reduce heat loss and load
- Do not overload the cooking surface with very cold or wet food at once.
- Keep the barbecue away from draughts and use it only in a suitable, well ventilated location where the manual allows.
- Expected result: the grill recovers temperature more quickly. If it still cannot reach a usable grilling temperature, do not continue to use it.
4. Know when to stop
- Stop using the barbecue if the heating element, thermostat or plug feels loose, damaged or unusually hot.
- Stop using it if the unit never reaches a safe grilling temperature after reasonable preheating.
If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
