Why does my barbecue only get warm instead of hot enough for grilling?

If the grill seems lukewarm, the most likely causes are a low heat setting, insufficient preheating or too much cold food placed on the grill too soon. Start with simple checks before assuming there is a fault.

  1. Set the thermostat to a higher level and allow the barbecue to preheat fully. Expected result: the grill surface should become noticeably hotter after a few minutes.
  2. Check that the lid, windscreen or table setup is not preventing normal heat flow. Use the appliance in the intended configuration only.
  3. Reduce the amount of food on the grill and avoid crowding the cooking surface. Overloading the grill can pull the temperature down.
  4. Wipe away excess moisture from food before grilling. Wet food cools the plate and can make the barbecue seem underpowered.

Stop using the barbecue immediately if the heat remains very low despite the highest safe setting, if the indicator light behaves abnormally, or if the appliance overheats, smells burnt or switches off unexpectedly. Do not dismantle electrical parts. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
