Why does the power light on my electric barbecue stay off?

If the power light stays off, do not assume the barbecue is safe to use or faulty in the same way on every model. The light is a useful indicator on supported models, but the safest first check is always to confirm the plug, socket and cord are in good condition before you try anything else.

1. Confirm the power source

1. Check that the plug is fully inserted into a working wall socket.
2. Test the socket with another appliance.
3. Expected result: the other appliance works and the barbecue receives power. If not, stop using it until the socket issue is fixed.

2. Inspect the cord and plug visually

1. Look for cuts, crushing, bent pins or scorch marks on the cable, plug and appliance inlet.
2. Do not bend the lead sharply or use the barbecue if any part looks damaged.
3. Expected result: the cable is intact and undamaged. If not, stop using the product immediately.

3. Check the control setting

1. Turn the thermostat up from off to a cooking position, then wait briefly.
2. On some models, the indicator light comes on when the appliance is powered and heating.
3. Expected result: the light comes on once the control is set correctly. If it remains off despite a live socket and intact cord, stop using the barbecue.

4. Know when to stop

• Stop using the product if the indicator light never appears and the unit does not heat.
• Stop using it if the appliance flickers, trips power or shows any electrical smell.
