Why is my electric barbecue switch or thermostat not responding properly?

If the barbecue does not react when you turn the control, the issue may be the socket, the thermostat setting, or a fault in the control path. Because the appliance uses mains power and high heat, treat an unresponsive control as a possible safety issue.

1. Test the basic power flow

1. Plug the barbecue into a different working socket.
2. Turn the thermostat away from the lowest setting.
3. Watch for the power indication light, if your model has one.

If the control still appears dead or inconsistent, stop using it.

2. Check for loose or damaged parts

1. Unplug the barbecue and let it cool completely.
2. Look for a loose control knob, damaged cable or scorch marks.
3. Make sure the heating element sits properly in place, if applicable.

If any part feels unstable, stop using the barbecue.

3. Observe how it behaves during use

1. Turn the control slowly through its range.
2. See whether the barbecue heats only at certain positions.
3. Note any clicking, flickering or sudden loss of heat.

If the barbecue responds only intermittently, stop using it and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.

4. When to stop using it

Stop immediately if the control becomes hot, if the barbecue switches itself off unexpectedly, or if the power light behaves erratically.
