Why does my barbecue not heat up when I switch it on?

If your barbecue does not heat up, first check the power supply, controls and whether the appliance has had time to preheat. A cold grill can also be caused by a poor plug connection, an incorrect heat setting or a fault that needs the product to be stopped from use.

1. Check that the plug is fully inserted into a suitable wall socket and that the socket has power. If there is no power light at all, the barbecue is not receiving electricity.
2. Turn the thermostat or heat control to a higher setting and wait for the appliance to preheat. Expected result: the power or heating light should come on and the grill should begin to warm.
3. If your model has a removable heating element or parts that must sit correctly in place, make sure everything is assembled as described in the product instructions before switching it on. A loose part can prevent proper heating.
4. Look for any signs of damage, a burnt smell, unusual noise or repeated tripping at the socket. Expected result: none of these should be present during normal use.

Stop using the barbecue immediately if the cable, plug, control or housing looks damaged, if the appliance trips the power repeatedly, or if it heats intermittently. Do not open the housing or try to repair electrical parts yourself. If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
