Why does my sandwich maker smell hot during use?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 3:32 PM

A warm plastic or hot metal smell can happen if the appliance is heating up normally, but a strong burning smell is not normal.

  1. Switch the appliance off and unplug it if the smell is strong or unusual.
  2. Check for crumbs, grease or filling residue on the plates or around the edges.
  3. Clean the appliance only after it has cooled completely.
  4. Use less filling next time to reduce leakage onto hot surfaces.

Expected result: A light heating smell should be temporary and should lessen during normal use.

When to stop: Stop immediately if the smell is sharp, smoky, or accompanied by black residue.

When to contact support: Contact support if the smell returns every time you use the appliance after careful cleaning.
