Why does my cake maker smell or smoke the first time I use it?

A light smell or a small amount of smoke can happen during the first use as the appliance heats up. If the smoke is heavy, persistent or accompanied by a burning smell, stop using it straight away.

1. Make sure all packaging material has been removed.
2. Wipe the plates before first use. Follow the cleaning instructions for the appliance and use only a soft, damp cloth.
3. Place the appliance on a heat-resistant, level surface with enough ventilation.
4. Heat the appliance empty for a short time only if needed for first use. Keep watch during this period.
5. Check for leftover batter, oil or cleaning residue if the smell returns later.

Expected result

The initial smell should reduce after the first use and should not return strongly in normal operation.
