Why does my hair curler not heat up when I switch it on?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 10:47 AM

If your hair curler does not warm up, start with the power supply and the controls before you assume the appliance has failed. A loose plug, an unresponsive switch, or a safety shut-off after storage can all stop normal heating.

  1. Check the socket. Unplug the curler and plug a different appliance into the same socket. If the other appliance also does not work, the socket may be the issue. If it does work, continue.
  2. Check the power cord and plug. Look for visible damage, kinks or a loose connection at the appliance end. If the cord or plug looks damaged, stop using the curler immediately.
  3. Switch the curler on and wait the stated warm-up time. Some hair curlers need a short heating period before they are ready. If the indicator light stays off or never changes, move to the next step.
  4. Confirm the appliance is fully assembled and correctly closed. If the plates or clamp are not sitting correctly, the appliance may not start heating as expected.
  5. Allow for an automatic shut-off reset. If the curler has been left unused, switch it off, unplug it and let it cool before trying again.

What the result means

If the socket is fine, the cord looks safe and the appliance still does not heat after a full retry, the fault is no longer a simple first-line issue. Stop using the product if it gives off a burning smell, feels unusually hot on the outside, or shows signs of electrical damage.

When to stop using it

Stop using the hair curler at once if you see heat damage, melting, sparking, smoke, or a damaged cable. Do not try to open the housing or repair the appliance yourself.

If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased for the available next steps.
