Why does my hair curler not stay hot long enough?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 8:37 AM

If your hair curler seems to lose heat while you are styling, the issue is often linked to the power supply, the chosen heat setting or the way the appliance is being used. Begin with a simple reset and then check whether the barrel keeps a steady temperature during normal use.

What to check

  1. Give it time to reach temperature. Wait until the appliance has had time to warm up fully before starting a section of hair.
  2. Use smaller sections. Thick or very long hair needs smaller sections so the barrel can transfer heat evenly.
  3. Check your hair condition. Damp hair, product build-up or tangles can make styling less effective and make the curler seem weaker than it is.
  4. Try a different socket. A weak supply can cause temperature drop during use.

Expected result: the curler should hold its heat long enough to form a curl without needing repeated passes over the same section. If you need to keep clamping the same hair several times, the appliance may not be performing correctly.

Stop using if necessary

Stop using the curler if the heat becomes erratic, the casing becomes unusually hot, or the appliance smells burnt. Do not use it on wet hair or continue if the cord, plug or barrel shows signs of damage.

If the problem remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
