Why does my hair curler switch off during styling?

If your hair curler cuts out while you are using it, the most likely causes are overheating, an unstable power connection or an automatic shut-off feature. Pause styling and check the appliance before you carry on, especially if it feels hotter than normal.

Check the supply first

1. Unplug and inspect the cord. Look for twisting, tight wrapping, kinks or a section that feels loose near the appliance.
2. Try a different socket. A weak socket or poor connection can cause the curler to stop intermittently.
3. Allow cooling time. If the curler has become very hot, turn it off, unplug it and leave it to cool fully before using it again.
4. Reduce the amount of hair in each section. Large sections can make the appliance work harder and may trigger protection on some models.

What to look for: if the appliance restarts normally after cooling, heat build-up was likely the cause. If it only works when the cord is moved, or it switches off again very quickly, the cable or internal connection may be faulty.

When to stop using it

Stop using the curler at once if it trips the power, emits an unusual smell, makes crackling noises or the cable looks damaged. Do not try to repair the cord, plug or internal parts yourself.
