Why is my pet feeder backup battery not working?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 8:12 AM

If the feeder loses settings or stops during a power cut, the backup battery may be flat, fitted incorrectly or no longer holding charge. Check the battery carefully, but stop using the feeder if the battery compartment is damaged, swollen or hot.

Check the battery condition

  1. Confirm the battery is inserted the correct way round, if your model uses one.
  2. Replace it with the specified type from the supplied instructions.
  3. After fitting, unplug the feeder briefly and see whether it keeps time or remains active.

If the feeder stays on during the unplug test, the backup battery is working.

Check for signs of battery failure

  1. Look for corrosion, leakage or swelling in the battery compartment.
  2. Remove any loose residue carefully as instructed for the product, if safe to do so.
  3. Check whether the feeder resets its clock or schedule after power is removed.

If settings are lost every time, the backup battery is no longer supporting memory or timekeeping.

Stop using it if unsafe

  1. Stop using the feeder if the battery area is hot, smells unusual or shows leakage.
  2. Do not puncture, recharge or open the battery.
  3. If the issue remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
