Why does my fan heater smell hot or dusty when I first use it?

A slight smell when a fan heater is used for the first time, or after storage, is often caused by dust on the heating elements rather than a serious fault. With the KA-5039, it is still important to keep the heater clear, upright and under supervision, because hot air appliances can overheat if they are blocked or covered.

1. Switch the heater off and let it cool, then inspect the visible vents for dust. Expected result: light dust can usually be removed from the outside with a dry cloth.
2. Place the heater in a well-ventilated area for a short test run, away from fabrics, paper and other items that could pick up heat. Expected result: any light odour should reduce after a short period.
3. Check that the heater is not covered and that the cord is not wrapped around the body. The manual warns against wrapping the cable around the appliance during or after use.
4. If the smell becomes strong, sharp, smoky or electrical, switch off immediately and unplug the heater. Expected result: no strong burning smell should be present during normal use.
5. If the smell keeps returning, or if the heater runs hotter than expected, stop using it. Expected result: the unit should operate without smoke, scorching or visible damage.

Do not spray cleaning products into the heater or open the housing. If the smell remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, stop using the appliance and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
