Why is my fan not starting when I switch it on?

If your fan does not start, begin with the power supply and settings before assuming there is a fault. On these Tristar fans and fan heater, the most common first checks are the mains plug, the socket, the selected speed or mode, and any overheat protection that may have switched the appliance off temporarily. The fan should only be used if it is on a stable surface, clear of obstructions and dry.

Check the basics first

1. Switch the product off, unplug it and check whether the mains plug is fully inserted into a working socket.
2. Try another appliance in the same socket, or test the fan in a different socket, to see whether the socket is the cause.
3. Set the control to a normal running position, not only a timer or standby setting.
4. For the fan heater, confirm that a heat or fan mode has been selected and that the thermostat is turned up enough for the room conditions.

Look for a temporary safety stop

1. If the fan has tipped over, overheated or been blocked, leave it unplugged and allow it to cool fully.
2. Check that the air inlet, air outlet and fan guards are free from dust, packaging material or other obstruction.
3. Place the fan on a hard, flat and stable surface, then try again.
