Why does my cake pan need checking before I use it?

Modified on Tue, 25 Aug at 3:52 AM

The cake pan is a small food-contact accessory, so it is worth checking before use even though it has no electrical parts. The Princess cake pan has a 13 cm diameter, which makes fit, cleanliness and damage the main points to inspect before baking.

1. Check the surface carefully

  1. Look for dents, cracks, warped edges or peeling coating if present.
  2. Make sure the pan is clean and dry.

If you can see damage or residue, the pan may not give consistent results.

2. Confirm the pan sits correctly in your appliance

  1. Place it only in the appliance for which it was intended.
  2. Check that it sits level and does not rock.

If it does not sit flat, the fit may be wrong and baking may be uneven.

3. Clean before first use and after each use

  1. Wash or wipe it using a soft cloth and mild detergent if appropriate for the material.
  2. Dry it fully before storing.

If the pan smells stale after storage, it may simply need cleaning and airing.

4. Stop if it becomes unsafe

  1. Do not use the pan if it is cracked, badly warped or has sharp edges.
  2. Do not force it into place.

If the pan is damaged or you are unsure whether it is still safe, stop using it and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
