Why does my raclette make a clicking or buzzing sound while heating?

Light clicking or a soft buzzing sound can happen as a heating appliance cycles, but sharp, repeated or loud noise deserves attention. If the sound is accompanied by smell, visible sparking or power loss, stop using the appliance straight away.

What to check first

1. Unplug the appliance after it cools and inspect the grill plate, pans and base for anything loose, misfitted or trapped. The manuals require cooling before cleaning and recommend that all parts dry fully before storage.
2. Check that the appliance is level and not touching other objects. Vibration from an uneven surface can make normal heating sounds seem louder.
3. Listen to whether the noise changes when the thermostat or indicator light cycles. On thermostat-controlled models, the light can stay on while heat is being adjusted.
4. Look for food residue, grease or moisture around the plate edges. The manuals recommend cleaning with warm soapy water and avoiding immersion of electrical parts.
5. If the sound started after a recent knock, drop or move, treat it as a possible internal fault and do not continue testing repeatedly.

What the result means

• If the noise reduces after placing the unit level and cleaning residue, the cause was likely external.
• If the noise gets louder, becomes irregular or is linked to sparking or smell, the appliance may be unsafe.

When to stop using it

Stop using the raclette immediately if the noise is joined by sparks, smoke, a burnt smell or a loose electrical connection. If the problem remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
