Why is my raclette not heating up at all?

Modified on Thu, 20 Aug at 7:01 PM

If the raclette stays cold, start with the simplest power checks first. For mains-powered heating appliances, do not continue using it if the cable, plug or base looks damaged, smells burnt or feels unusually hot.

  1. Check the wall socket with another appliance. If the socket does not work, use a different one. If the socket works, continue.
  2. Make sure the raclette is plugged in properly. A partly inserted plug can stop the plate heating. If the indicator light does not come on when the appliance is switched on, unplug it and inspect the cable for visible damage.
  3. Use the on/off switch or thermostat as intended. Some models have an on/off switch with indicator light, while others use an adjustable thermostat. If the control is not set correctly, the appliance may remain cold. Turn it fully off, then back on again once.
  4. Wait a few minutes after switching on. Heating appliances can take a short while to warm up. If the light is on but there is still no heat after a reasonable preheat time, stop using it.
  5. Check whether any removable plate is seated correctly. If a plate is not fitted properly, the appliance may not heat as expected. Reseat only the removable parts that the manual allows you to remove.

Stop using the raclette immediately if you see damaged wiring, hear crackling, notice a burning smell or the appliance cuts in and out. If the problem remains unresolved, contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
