Why does my sandwich maker need to stand before I store it?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 9:37 PM

These sandwich makers can be stored horizontally or vertically, but only once they are fully cool and dry. Storing the appliance too soon after use can trap moisture, soften residue and leave it smelling stale next time.

Store it safely

  1. Switch off and unplug the appliance after use, then allow it to cool with the lid open.
  2. Wipe the plates and exterior clean with a soft cloth, and make sure no crumbs remain around the hinges or safety lock.
  3. Check that the cord is wound neatly in the cord storage area where fitted, and that the plug is not under strain.
  4. Store it upright or flat only when all surfaces are dry.

If the appliance feels damp inside, has a stale smell that does not clear, or shows rust, stop using it until it has been checked. Do not store a warm appliance in a closed cupboard or under items that can trap heat.

What the result means

  • If the smell disappears after proper cooling and drying, storage moisture was probably the cause.
  • If residue keeps reappearing, the appliance may need cleaning more thoroughly after each use.
  • If the lid or base seems warped after storage, stop using it and have it assessed by the retailer.

If the issue remains unresolved or safe use is uncertain, contact the retailer or store where the product was purchased.
