Why are my sandwiches sticking to the plates?

Modified on Mon, 24 Aug at 1:06 PM

Food sticking to the plates is usually caused by insufficient preheating, too much moisture or residue on the non-stick surface. Start with gentle cleaning and better food preparation, then stop using the appliance if the coating is peeling, scratched badly or no longer releases food safely.

  1. Let the sandwich maker heat fully before adding food. The plates should be properly warm before the first sandwich goes in. Expected result: the sandwich should release more easily when the plates are hot enough. If it still sticks, continue.
  2. Use a little less filling and avoid very wet ingredients. Excess sauce, tomato or filling overflow can weld the sandwich to the plates. Expected result: a drier sandwich should remove more cleanly. If not, continue.
  3. Clean the non-stick plates carefully after cooling. Use a damp cloth or soft brush only. Do not use scouring pads or metal tools. Expected result: residue should come away and the coating should remain smooth. If the surface is damaged, stop using the product.
  4. Remove the sandwich with a wooden or plastic utensil. Avoid sharp metal items that can scrape the coating. Expected result: the food should lift without tearing the surface. If it still sticks heavily after these checks, the appliance may need attention.

If the food continues to stick badly, or if the coating looks worn or unsafe, stop using the sandwich maker and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
