Why does my iron produce weak steam after cleaning or storage?

Weak steam after cleaning or after time in storage is often caused by residue, scale or a tank that still needs to be primed with water. Start with the safest checks and stop if the iron shows signs of overheating, burning or electrical damage.

  1. Unplug the iron and let it cool completely, then empty and refill the tank with fresh water.
  2. Check whether the steam outlet holes are blocked by lint or residue. Clean only the outside surfaces and soleplate once cool.
  3. Run the self-cleaning function only if your model provides it and the manual says it is safe to use in that state.
  4. If steam stays weak after refilling and cleaning, or if the iron begins to spit dirty water, stop using it and have the retailer advise on next steps.

Expected result: steam output should return to a steady level and the soleplate should no longer emit particles. If the appliance still performs poorly, stop using it and contact the retailer or store where it was purchased.
